Latest survey comments

If you've signed the survey online there's an opportunity to comment - here's the latest!
  • preserve real Wales!
  • Pubs are an important part of a community, especially in view of all the other social amenities which are being eroded. Once gone, they will never come back so this is the only chance we have to save this precious place
  • I wonder how many M.P's, Planning Officers, Councillors, etc would accept this ridiculous planning application, if it was in their back yard. We have nothing on Pantmawr other than the 'pub', take this away and we have literally nothing and no where to meet. I am a 41 year resident on this estate. This estate is no place for a concrete jungle - stop it once and for all.
  • It sickens me how developers miss what a neighbourhood, village means to a community. I hope that I will be included in the petition against this developement. I spent many comfortable times sitting in your pub with wonderful friends enjoying great atmosphere, laughter and delicious food. People watching is a lot of fun aand this is a neighbourhood pub. This lovely old pub brings people together and when visitors from else where arrive "here's a bit of comfort" . I wish luck and look forward to my next visit to the neighbourhood pub.
  • remove the local pub and or other amenities ie. local pub, corner shop, post office, and you will lose the community. if YOU lose the community spirit you lose the pride and care that people have for their area. STANDARDS FALL and suddenly you have a run down or scruffy problem area. your community spirit is your PRIDE
  • I had my leaving party here before working abroad for 2 years, it better be there when I get back. Total disregard for quality of life, just say "NO".
  • There have been so many historic buildings demolished in Cardiff over the years that we MUST now retain what we have left, including the Pantmawr. I wish you well in your campaign

Pantmawr Newsletter! The latest!

The following newsletter is being distributed around the estate.

PANTMAWR ACTION GROUP (PAG) NEWSLETTER (Dec/Jan 07/08)

With all your help, writing letters and signing the petition, we managed to stop the previous planned development on

the Pantmawr Inn site, THANK YOU.

BUT NEW PLANS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED! Beware! the plans are nearly the same as the previous ones, with

34 dwellings instead of 36 with 60 bedrooms as before and some houses instead of flats - but they are nearly all still

3 storeys!!

Please show your support for the campaign against the development by:

Signing the New Petition

Urgently writing a letter of objection to the Planning Officer: Julian Steadman, Development Control Strategic

Planning & Environment, City Hall, Cardiff, CF10 3ND or email: developmentcontrol@cardiff.gov.uk by Jan

10th. Please quote the reference 07/1980/W. You will need to write a new letter even if you sent one before

as this is a new plan for us to oppose. EVERY LETTER COUNTS!!!!!

Attending the meeting at All Saints Church Hall Jan 2nd 7pm arranged by your local Independent Councillors to

see the plans, put forward your views and listen to others.

Attending our Public Meeting at the Pantmawr Inn Jan 4th 8.30pm. to discuss our campaign. (If you would like to

attend this meeting but need transport, please phone 20623466.)

Keeping/putting up a sign to show you are against the development in your window or garden.

Visiting our website for updates: www.savepantmawr.org

OBJECTION LETTERS. We shall have the same problems with this development as before so you may wish to

object to any of the following which apply to you:

The height of the proposed buildings with windows overlooking properties

The high density of building, totally out of character with the rest of our semi-rural estate

The lack of car-parking spaces (There will be 48 parking spaces provided as in the previous application, 9 garages

and 39 spaces. We didn't think this number was sufficient for the first plan but 7 of the spaces are in front of

garages - does your own experience tell you if the garages and spaces will be used? And will there be more than 1

car per family?)

All these extra dwellings will mean overflow parking and extra traffic congestion in Tyla Teg and getting out of the

estate on to Pantmawr Road.

There will be extra pressure on the water supply system, drains and sewerage and gas and electricity supplies -

describe any problems you have had in the past.

The development will mean the loss of our only remaining amenity, the Pantmawr Inn, which is an old building of

character in the middle of the estate. We have a new Landlord who is providing fantastic food and we have had

very successful events in the pub for residents this year. You could give examples of events your family has

attended in the past and more recently. If you intend to, state that you will continue to support the pub. If you would

find it more difficult to take part in similar activities in Rhiwbina or Whitchurch please explain this.

What amenities will be available for the extra adults and children?

Concerns about site traffic, noise and danger.

The effects of development on wildlife on the site. If you have seen wildlife, state what you have seen.

Limited access for emergency vehicles into the new development.

Newsletter to Residents!

The following newsletter will be delivered around the estate very soon!

The Action Group would like to thank all those who have contributed to our campaign against either the proposal to demolish the Pantmawr Inn, the application to build 36 flats or both. Posters have appeared in various locations in some 75% of houses on the Estate. We have delivered a Petition containing 772 signatures against the demolition proposal and 757 against the building of the flats. There are more petition sheets arriving to be delivered, so we hope to reach the 1000 mark. We understand there have been more than 100 objection letters sent to the Council and, as a consequence, the officers were unable to prepare their report in time to put the application to the 10th October Planning meeting.

We have had an excellent response to our survey and that has yielded some very useful information about the age profile, use of exits, and use of the Pantmawr Inn that will be of great value when we get our chance to address the Council’s Planning Committee, possibly at the November Planning meeting. There have also been some other very interesting and potentially crucial comments added that we are currently pursuing Any rumours you may have heard that the decision will go through on the nod because Charles Church, the Developer, has made a contribution to development elsewhere are incorrect. The only contribution they could be required to make is one towards Affordable Housing given the size of the proposed development and as there will be none provided within it.

Since the change of Tenancy and the introduction of food the Pantmawr Inn has been extremely well used which disproves the claim by the Developers that it is redundant. The food is said by those who have availed themselves of this facility to be good and wholesome and value for money. The new tenant, Jon Bassett, has said that he would like to take over longer than the 6 months of his present lease. Some of the outside groups who have used the pub in the past for meetings are continuing to use it, and we hope to get enough use to justify the tenant putting in a fire alarm system to enable the function room to be used again.

We will keep you posted and in the meantime, those who can, please keep up to date by logging on to our website, http://www.savepantmawr.org/ for the latest news. For posters (large & car size) email: savepantmawr@hotmail.co.uk

Supporters latest comments ..leave the pub alone!

Thankyou to all our friends from the Pantmawr Action Group.

We signed the "Stop the Pantmawr Development" petition!

Sep 19, 2007, Lewis Cooke , UK stupid idea.... leave the pub alone!

Sep 19, 2007, Tony Williams , UK A community based family pub in an estate of family residences flattened to put up multiple occupancy flats with no outside space or gardens. Not in keeping with the area and a totally inappropriate use of the tiny site. Leave the Pantmawr Pub alone.

Sep 19, 2007, Ceri Jonathan , United Kingdom I have had many a good night at this pub and its a shame at what's happening.

Sep 19, 2007, David Bliss , UK More of our old treasured buildings to be knocked down to make way for yet more characterless flats? No thanks!

Sep 19, 2007, Mike Walker , UK Yet again a local community is under threat of losing an important amenity enjoyed for many years and generations to short-term corporate profitism - the local authorities MUST recognise that, bit by bit, the Cardiff we all love is in danger of losing the very character that makes it one of THE great cities in the British Isles.

Sep 19, 2007, Elaine Davey , UK This country, aided by many of the policies of central government, has allowed itself to be sold out to the greedy property development market without due consideration of the social and community implications. It's time to call 'Time'
